Messing About - The Kenneth Willams Extravaganza |
 |
|
Lowry Quays Theatre - (Wed 17th to 20th Mar 2010) |
| Stop
Messing About is set during a live recording, packed with
outrageously funny sketches, parodies and songs, which
reunited Kenneth Williams with his Carry On co-star Joan
Sims and Hugh Paddick transporting you back to a time
when comedy meant being funny, with scarcely a swear word
in sight. |

Egeon, one son and one servant were separated from the rest and have travelled the world in search of their other halves ever since. Milligan's Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall |
 |
|
Lowry Quays Theatre - (Tue 6th to 10th Apr 2010) |
| Spike
Milligan’s celebrated war memoirs take to the road
once more in this gloriously absurd and exuberant hit
comedy which has had both audiences and critics in stitches.
High comedy and tragedy collide as we follow Gunner Milligan
and his jazz quartet, adrift on the tide of great historic
events. Using Milligan’s own words, the show joyously
fuses comedy, song and dance; showing how humour, music
and comradeship enabled a hapless bunch of young men to
prevail against the might of the Nazi War machine. Songs
include the jazz greats Chattanooga Choo Choo, Ain’t
Misbehavin’, In the Mood, Honeysuckle Rose and many
more. |

Lowry Quays Theatre - (Sun 11th Apr 2010) |
Britain’s
top female comedy trio are 25 years old. Well, actually,
they’re older than that, but have decided their
Silver Jubilee can be celebrated for a few more years!
Dillie, Adele and Liza look forward to entertaining you
with some new songs. Thrill to the beauty of the harmonies,
marvel at the intricate rhymes and, if you’re one
of their older fans, remember to switch your hearing aid
to the theatre’s loop system to avoid unpleasant
whistling. |

Clunk |
 |
|
Lowry Studio Theatre - (Tue 22nd Apr 2010) |
| Two
women and an incoherent male live together but can't quite
work out why. The radio is broken, another mysterious
relative has died and there's a parcel on the step. It's
like this every day. But last night I dreamt of George
again... ‘Clunk’ is an absurd and refreshing
comedy from Liverpool-based theatre collective The Suitcase
Ensemble, and comes to The Lowry following a hugely successful
premiere in 2009. A feast of unhinged humour, charming
puppetry, audacious nonsense and existential angst, ‘Clunk’
casts a wry eye over a world that turns us all into idiots.

Beautiful House |

| Library Theatre - (Thur 22nd Apr to Sat 8th May 2010) |
|
So that their seriously ill daughter can spend what might be her last months in her childhood home, Ronnie and Bridgette have vacated their dream house in Delph for a Salford tower block. And at first they think Otis and Paula, in the flat below, are the neighbours from hell. First seen at Studio Salford, and subsequently in the 2009 Re:Play Festival, and now being given a new production by Noreen Kershaw, this wry tale of love and belongings, relics and regrets, and trinkets and tombs, is both heartbreaking and achingly funny.

The Importance Of Being Earnest |
 |
| Library Theatre - (Sat 5th June to Sat 3rd July 2010) |
| 'The truth is rarely pure and never simple.' This hysterical study of the Victorian leisure class is one of the funniest plays ever written. But this “trivial play for serious people” - as Oscar Wilde dubbed it - is also full of social and sexual ironies beneath its sunny and blithely irresponsible surface. A laughter-filled comedy of inversion, The Importance of Being Earnest was the first ever-production in the Library Theatre back in 1952, and is being fittingly revived to mark the company's final production in its present home. |

| Library Theatre - (Sun 20th June) |
| For one night only! We invite you to join us for a gala night celebrating 25 years of LipService lunacy. Yes, it’s hard to believe from their youthful good looks and physical elasticity that the ladies of LipService have been performing together for a quarter of a century (well they started incredibly young, four years old apparently). To mark this momentous occasion, LipService presents a comedy confection of their best bits - from Withering Looks, Women on the Verger, Very Little Women, King Arthur and the Knights of the Occasional Table, film clips from B-Road Movie and Horror for Wimps, and even some very early stand up. Who remembers Girls in Orbit, or Mavis the period from their first cabaret show, Coming on Late? |

Mum's The Word |
 |
|
Palace Theatre - (Thur 8th to 10th July) |
| A smash hit on two continents, Mum's The Word is an award-winning theatre piece written by six women who have endured the agonies and ecstasies of parenting. A hysterically funny and poignant play, it deals in shocking detail with all the important elements of childrearing with which those who are already parents will immediately identify, including every parent's daily immersion in “bathwater, food, spit, snot, blood, vomit, urine and faeces”. Originally produced in Canada, where the authors live, the play has had five sell-out seasons in Vancouver and completed two Canadian tours, culminating in its resounding success at the 2001 Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal. The show has also run for three years in Australia, commencing at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and touring to this day. There have also been productions in New Zealand and throughout America, most recently in Chicago and Minneapolis. There is also a 4pm perfomance on the Saturday. |

Wife Begins At Forty |
 |
| Stockport Plaza - (Thur 31st August to 5th September) |
| The official 25th anniversary production of Ray Cooney's hugely successful comedy with Vicki Michelle (‘Allo, ‘Allo). It seems that, for some people, forty is a rather traumatic age. For Linda Harper, it certainly appears to be, as she starts worrying three years before her fortieth birthday. She is dissatisfied spiritually and physically with her seventeen-year marriage to the slightly staid George. However following a drunken night, during which George recounts passionate stories involving a flamenco dancer from the top of a grand piano, he moves out. When he returns to the family home a few weeks later to sort out maintenance arrangements with the help of neighbours Roger and Betty, he and Linda discover that the flames of passion are not quite dead, albeit in need of a little fanning! Accompanied by the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, Linda helps George to put the ex back into sex. There is a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday. |
