Dave
Gorman |
 |
|
Lowry Lyric Theatre - (Sat 13th March 2010) |
| In
2009, DAVE GORMAN set off on a unique national tour. The
intention: to cycle over 1500 miles across Britain in
33 days… with a gig each night. I suppose that explains
the title. But demand for the show has been so high that
he’s decided to keep performing it… but this
time without cycling from venue to venue. He’s obviously
getting lazy. So now only the last bit of the title makes
sense. But look at it from his point of view. Same show,
fewer blisters. What would you do? Of course from your
point of view it doesn’t matter because it’s
not a show about the journey. |

Messing About - The Kenneth Willams Extravaganza |
 |
|
Lowry Quays Theatre - (Wed 17th to 20th Mar 2010) |
| Stop
Messing About is set during a live recording, packed with
outrageously funny sketches, parodies and songs, which
reunited Kenneth Williams with his Carry On co-star Joan
Sims and Hugh Paddick transporting you back to a time
when comedy meant being funny, with scarcely a swear word
in sight. |

The Man Who Was Hamlet |
 |
| Lowry Quays Theatre - (Wed 25th & 26th Mar 2010) |
|
The tragic, comical, romantic and scandalous history of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, the man who was Hamlet; not the illiterate tax-dodger of Stratford but the real William Shakespeare. His story involves murder, travel, pirates, a love-child, imprisonment in The Tower and fighting the Armada. His writing stopped after the appearance of ‘Shake-speare'. So was de Vere the inspiration for Hamlet or was he really the author? Award-winning performer George Dillon presents an unforgettable solo tour de force. |

Spike
Milligan's Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall |
 |
|
Lowry Quays Theatre - (Tue 6th to 10th Apr 2010) |
| Spike
Milligan’s celebrated war memoirs take to the road
once more in this gloriously absurd and exuberant hit
comedy which has had both audiences and critics in stitches.
High comedy and tragedy collide as we follow Gunner Milligan
and his jazz quartet, adrift on the tide of great historic
events. Using Milligan’s own words, the show joyously
fuses comedy, song and dance; showing how humour, music
and comradeship enabled a hapless bunch of young men to
prevail against the might of the Nazi War machine. Songs
include the jazz greats Chattanooga Choo Choo, Ain’t
Misbehavin’, In the Mood, Honeysuckle Rose and many
more. |

Fascinating
Aida |
 |
|
Lowry Quays Theatre - (Sun 11th Apr 2010) |
Britain’s
top female comedy trio are 25 years old. Well, actually,
they’re older than that, but have decided their
Silver Jubilee can be celebrated for a few more years!
Dillie, Adele and Liza look forward to entertaining you
with some new songs. Thrill to the beauty of the harmonies,
marvel at the intricate rhymes and, if you’re one
of their older fans, remember to switch your hearing aid
to the theatre’s loop system to avoid unpleasant
whistling. |

Rhod
Gilbert & The Cat Who Looked Like Nicholas Lindhurst |
 |
|
Lowry Lyric Theatre - (Sun 18th April 2010) |
| Following
last year’s sell-out tour and sensational performances
on ‘The Royal Variety Performance’, ‘Live
At The Apollo’, and ‘Michael Mcintyre’s
Comedy Roadshow’, the Welsh Wonder is back on the
road with a brand new show. Last year, he punched a shop-assistant
over the duvet tog-rating system and went berserk over
a mince pie. Stung by accusations that he over-reacts,
this year Rhod sets out on an emotional rollercoaster
of a journey to discover the truth. Is he, as he believes,
a visionary in a sea of closed minds, or has he, as everyone
else believes, got anger-management problems? Total sell-out,
Edinburgh 2005-2008. If. Comedy Nominee 2008. One of the
hottest names in stand-up today. |

Clunk |
 |
|
Lowry Studio Theatre - (Tue 22nd Apr 2010) |
| Two
women and an incoherent male live together but can't quite
work out why. The radio is broken, another mysterious
relative has died and there's a parcel on the step. It's
like this every day. But last night I dreamt of George
again... ‘Clunk’ is an absurd and refreshing
comedy from Liverpool-based theatre collective The Suitcase
Ensemble, and comes to The Lowry following a hugely successful
premiere in 2009. A feast of unhinged humour, charming
puppetry, audacious nonsense and existential angst, ‘Clunk’
casts a wry eye over a world that turns us all into idiots.

Bridget Christie |
 |
| Lowry Studio Theatre - (Sun 25th April 2010) |
| In 2003 Bridget Christie joined the diary column of the Daily Mail. Whilst there she made a lot of coffee, was strangled by Gene Wilder, fed a fish by Peter Stringfellow and saw Alan Yentob fall off a chair. She stayed for five years. This is Bridget Christie's frank and hilarious account of the questionable practices of the modern showbiz hack.

Hardeep Singh Kohli - The Nearly Naked Chef |
 |
| Lowry Quays Theatre - (Fri 14th May 2010) |
|
Grab a seat and tuck in as comedy combines with inventive cuisine in this wonderfully funny and laid back evening's entertainment. Think Ready Steady Cook but with great cooking (Hardeep was runner-up on the first series of Celebrity Masterchef) and funny anecdotes, all delivered by Glaswegian Hardeep in his own unique, articulate and utterly charming way. Having debuted and sold-out at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, this extended, two-course version of The Nearly Naked Chef, combines more of Hardeep's winning talents and recipes.
